Fun and cute if you know what to expect. What to expect is small, old rooms, thin walls, and basic amenities. That being said, my husband and I enjoyed the old fashioned quaintness of the place and the employees were very friendly. A great pool ave to stay if you are looking for a unique stay on a budget. Also, the location is super great, two blocks from the water and just a short walk from coffee shops, breweries, and theaters.

I have camped and traveled enough in Europe that I don’t mind a bathroom down the hall. Had a great stay! Rooms and shared bathrooms were very clean and comfortable. Appreciated that I could bring my dogs. Excellent restaurant in the building and wonderful downtown is right here!

Do not stay here. My husband (B Page) booked a 'standard room.' While I understand that it wasn't through the hotel directly but we were never warned or never were informed at any point during our hotel selection that it would have no bathroom, no fridge, no air conditioning, no sound proofing in the walls. There was a cheap amazon fan in the unit and a window that you could fall out of that opens up to a brick wall. And to mention once again NO BATHROOM. We had to share with everyone in a common area down the hall!. It was so hot in the unit but opening the window intensified the thumping music that was coming from who knows where! Honestly, we would have been better off camping. Don't call it a standard room if it doesn't have the standard amenities. This is not a hotel. It is a hostel! I double checked to make sure that a "standard room" was supposed to have the amenities and on their site it said they did but upon arrival, low and behold they do not. Horrible experience.

Get aware this building is turning 100 years soon and everything is like a Time Machine!!! DVDs, record players, heating radiators, even the furniture is so charming!? I’d definitely come back to the hotel room! Does not have AC but it’s really windy and cold at night we even needed to turn on the heater. Also the staff is super friendly and have movies every night!

This place is as cute as they can make it, it being a historic building in the middle of downtown. Chris was also wonderful, so no knocks on the staff. However... I do feel like how they present the place on their website is *VERY* different from the reality. I booked 2 rooms, one for my parents and one for myself - thinking this was an upscale, boutique-hotel that would be a great jump-off for our 10 day tour through Oregon. Budget was not a concern, I was just charmed by the website and description. However, this is much more like staying at a dorm or a hostel that is trying to dress up like a boutique hotel. Both my parents and I were barely able to sleep, even after being exhausted from our long travel day from the East coast. First off there is no AC - they don't name this anywhere as I guess its an assumption for the area (not something I would have ever thought about asking about coming from the rest of the country). Front desk person is only onsite during the day - the rest of the time you are there alone with all the other guests - so you are completely at the whim of the politeness of your surrounding guests (a group of people hung out at the top of the stairs, which is where my door was - for 2 hours until about midnight - talking, laughing, and playing with a cat). . And all of this might be okay... if the walls and windows weren't literally paper thin (its a historic building with no sound reduction measures in place). You can hear every single footstep, hallway conversation, neighboring room conversation, as if they are IN your room. And with no staff on site, its kind of a free-for-all. It is also right on the main street - so you hear trucks and motorcycles BARRELLING through your room at all hours, even on a weeknight. Since there is no AC, you're forced with the decision to open your windows and let in even more noise in an attempt to cool off. As undramatically as I can state this - if you are not a dead-to-the-world kind of sleeper, you won't be able to get much shut eye here. A majority of the rooms DO NOT have bathrooms. They use a shared communal bathroom, so even if you book a suite which does have one, there are people moving about the hallways to use the bathroom at all hours. I could go on... like how the mattresses are so thin that they fold up on the sides when you lay on them, the couches in the rooms are kind of worn and dirty, there was old cream cheese in the mini fridge... but all in all I can't wrap my head around this self prescribed "vibe" of wanting to support people who want to stay and rest and also those who want to stay, share communal spaces, listen to records (they rent out record players) and party. I am not sure how these two can co-exist in a building like this, as it doesn't seem fair to either experience - and if they were more forthright on their website about the true experience of staying here, they'd probably have to deal with a lot less disappointment in their reviews. TL:DR - Basically a dorm/hostel with good advertising. No AC, No soundproofing, *VERY* loud guest/street noise, communal bathrooms, limited onsite staff, and poor bed quality. So uncomfortable that I asked my parents if they'd like to grab rooms at the Astoria Holiday Inn Express, but they championed through it. We did really like Chris, but it was our least favorite and most uncomfortable stay out of the whole trip.

Do not stay here if you want a comfortable, peaceful and restful stay. This is written by someone who has worked as a front desk agent before so I know the hospitality industry well and I tend to not sweat the small stuff because I know that no hotel is perfect. First of all, the check-in times are not obvious when making a reservation. Apparently reception closes at 8pm.... which thankfully I checked in before that but if not, I'd probably have been confused as to what to do in that case. The front desk agent was very nice, so props to them. Second, I got my key and walked up and through a very dated/old hallway. I walked into my room and it was very hot, loud, and not conducive to a comfortable stay. The furniture was old and not in a vintage sense, but dingy. The expectation when you pay $300+ for a room is that it will be comfortable to sleep in, and there was no way I would have been able to sleep well. I've paid much less for better quality hotels. Third, their policy is that even though I walked out and didn't touch anything in the room (I was in there for no more than 3 minutes), they refuse to give me a refund. I gave them information about the quality of the room and plenty of time to rectify the situation. There is a reason that their policy is this way, because they know most people would not find their rooms acceptable. I frankly find it astounding that they have any positive reviews. Having worked at national branded hotels, if you have a negative experience, you are likely to get a refund especially if you don't stay in the room you booked because of quality issues. I will not stay at a Selina branded hotel again and I will tell anyone who considers it not to as well.

I hate to leave bad reviews, but I would never go back to Selina Commodore in Astoria, for the following reasons:|1) Very loud. It was a warm three days and since there is no air conditioning we had to leave the windows open at night for …

I made a reservation and when I showed up to check in I was told my reservation was canceled. The person working the front desk was very rude and could not explain why my reservation was canceled he presumed it may have been fault of the third party I used to reserve. I was left stranded on a holiday weekend and had book a different hotel last minute. I was upset and crying. The front desk person said he would check if they had availability and then got on the phone. Once he was off the phone he proceeded to ignore me until I asked if he was able to find availability. He said they were fully booked but my room had only been cancelled a few hours prior. I asked to speak to a manager he said one was unavailable so I asked for contact information to which he handed me the general business card which had the general website information on it. I have been battling between both the Selina management and Expedia to determine how my reservation was canceled without my notification and have not gotten resolve. The customer service at the hotel directly and as well as the upper management for Selina has been absolutely awful, which is unfortunate because the hotel itself looked like it would be a great place to stay.
